A GED typically gives you similar access to college and leads to similar SAT score requirements as a high school diploma. The University of Florida and Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi both, for instance, indicate on their admissions web pages that a GED applicant must meet the same admission requirements as a diploma earner.
In many cases, strong performance on your GED exams gives you more wiggle room on SAT tests.
More SAT Requirements
The A&M website indicates that the school scales SAT requirements based on your GED score. With a 58 or above on the GED, you need a 900 or higher combined math and verbal SAT score. With a GED from 45 to 50, though, you need an 1100 or higher on the SAT.
The University of Florida requires a 460 critical reading and 440 math score, regardless of whether you have a diploma or GED.
