Military schools for boys provide strict and disciplined training along with academics. Pre-collegiate military academies are scattered across Tennessee. These private schools are known for high academic quality and entrance rates in to universities.
McCallie School
McCallie School is both a day and boarding school dedicated to "the academic, physical, spiritual, and emotional growth of boys as they prepare for college and life." The average tuition for the day school is $20,245 while the average tuition for the boarding school is $37,955. Applying for McCallie requires rigorous testing, submission of grades, teacher recommendations, and a personal interview; there is also required standard dress for all grades. A variety of extra curricular activities are provided, as well as extensive athletic programs and summer programs in order to enhance studies. This is the only all-male military school in the state.

Columbia Academy
Colombia Academy provides education from kindergarden to grade 12. The mission of the school is to allow students to "master skills, knowledge, and character appropriate for them and their future while becoming Christlike in attitude and behaviour." With its Christian basis, the school offers daily classes and weekly chapel sessions. The school is co-ed. Begun as Columbia Military Academy in 1905, each grade level is limited to 60 students, and competition for spots is fierce. Tuition is ranges from $5,100 to $6,100 per year to attend.

The Webb School
The Webb school was founded in 1870 and is the oldest continuously operating boarding school in the southern United States. The co-ed school provides "an educational home that expands minds, builds character and enriches lives." With an honor code that has been adapted for use at Princeton University, the school has extensive student leadership opportunities for grades 6 to 12. Admission requires a testing process, and transcripts. For full boarding the tuition is $38,500, and for day schooling, the tuition is $29,950.

Baylor School
Baylor school originated in 1893 as a preparatory school for boys. The school overlooks the Tennessee River and offers extensive Advanced Placement courses. The school's mission is to "foster in its students both the ability and the desire to make a positive difference in the world." The cost is $19,536 for day students and $39,790 for boarding students. Located in Chattanooga, the school seeks a wide variety of skills and backgrounds in applicants, who must undergo a rigorous application process that includes testing, interviews, writing samples, and recent transcripts. The school states that that it 100 percent of its graduate attend post secondary institutions.
