Donating a hospital bed or any used medical equipment is easy. Local, state and worldwide organizations are happy to take a hospital bed, and they might even come by and collect it.
Decide if you want the hospital bed to go to a local organization, a family or any organization that needs it.
Give the bed to a local organization. Call the local Red Cross. They might welcome a hospital bed, and if they can't take it, they can probably recommend local non-profit organizations that could use it. Many communities have at least one organization that specializes in donated medical equipment. The organizations might also include free clinics, hospices and non-profit nursing homes.
Give the bed to a family. Call Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Churches also might be a good option. They might know of a family who needs a home hospital bed.
Give the bed to an international organization that helps people, clinics and other medical centers in need. Call, fax or email The American Medical Resources Foundation. It collects and ships good, used medical equipment worldwide.
Get a receipt. Donated medical equipment is tax-deductible if you donate to or through a qualified charitable organization rather than donate directly to a family in need.
