Wisconsin, best known for dairy cows, also has a strong equestrian industry. University of Wisconsin, River Falls
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls offers an animal science major with an equine emphasis, leading to a bachelor of science degree. The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences operates two laboratory farm sites, which includes a barn for horses. Students work on the farm, which also has student managers.

University of Wisconsin, Madison
The animal science department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, offers an equine extension program. Included are courses on equine science and management, reproduction and physiology. The university has an intercollegiate riding team operating out of the Hoofer Equestrian Center. Lessons are offered in dressage, hunt seat, western and jumping.

The University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine prepares students for careers as equine veterinarians. The university operates its own equine hospital, where fourth-year students do most of their work. The four-year program leads to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
